Dead Battery? Tips to Help A Battery Last Longer
Is the Summer Heat Getting to You?
It’s getting to your Vehicles Battery Too!
Contrary to popular belief, summer highs rather than winter lows pose the greater threat to your battery.
Extreme heat and overcharging are the two main reasons batteries fail. Heat causes the water to evaporate out of the battery fluid and alternators can overcharge the battery causing the battery to over heat. This over time will lead to a slow death for a battery.
Unfortunately there’s not much you can do to stop this from happening.
You may not have a problem all summer, but just as quickly as the weather turns cool, that’s when the battery dies.
During cold or cooler times the engine becomes harder to crank over due to thicker oil and a higher electrical demand from the fuel and ignition systems. When this occurs the battery simply can’t supply the necessary power to start the engine.
Here are some tips to Help:
- Keep the battery cables clean and tight
- Check the charging system. Make sure its not under or over charging.
- Clean the battery case. Oil and heavy deposits of dirt can cause the battery to overheat.
